A new private school, Anova, was approved by the Winchester School Committee this week. Currently plans are targeting a Fall 2010 opening. School representative believe the school will fill a need that exists in serving gifted students. The Winchester Star quotes Courtney Dickinson, “our mission is to create a K-12 school that serves high ability students and promotes learning based upon ability and motivation, not age”.
More information is available on the Anova school website,
What do you think? Have our public schools shortchanged our gifted students? Have you seen any public school initiatives in this area that have been successful? How do you feel this type of school will contribute to our community? Is it even possible to adequately serve these students given the economic and time constraints of a public school system?
