renovate home in winchester maRE/MAX Leading Edge is sponsoring a Home Show at the Arlington Town Hall this Saturday, March 6th. from 11am to 3pm. The show will feature over 40 exhibitors, a series of workshops providing homeowners ideas on saving energy, organizing, landscaping and interior design. There will also be various raffles throughout the day.

If you plan to purchase a home in need of renovation or if you are considering a renovation on your existing home, the Arlington Home Show is a great place to start. We also recommend Richard Leaf, Leaf Design Associates (781) 721-6541, Winchester MA. From design, through the building process, Leaf Design Associates attention to detail in creativity, quality, budgets, scheduling, and follow-up will exceeded your highest expectations.

General Tips to consider:
  • Be fully prepared with highly detailed design plans before beginning construction.
  • Calculate the budget realistically.
  • Have all necessary permit applications filed and permits issued in advance.
  • Be aware of potential building code issues. Discuss potential problems in advance with building inspectors.
  • Have financing fully secured before beginning, including an emergency fund of at least 30% of the budget in case of problems encountered during the process.
  • Order items far enough in advance that they will be available on site by the time they are needed for construction.
  • Have your temporary housing lined up before construction begins, if applicable, and make sure it is available for as much as twice the scheduled construction duration in case of emergency.
  • Green is money. When looking at green alternatives, look for more efficient money-saving strategies. One way is to secure places with airflow, such as windows and doors, which will save money on electricity.
